French Throwdown: an exceptional weekend in Lyon

Hustle Up·21 mai 2024

The CrossFit® community from France and Europe gathered at the LDLC Arena for three days of festivities.

Sunday, May 19, 2024, 6 p.m. Spring sunshine accompanies the last athletes and spectators outside the LDLC Arena in Lyon. The eleventh edition of the French Throwdown comes to an end. Excitement and emotion come down a notch after three intense days during which the entire CrossFit® community came together to share, vibrate and celebrate. It wasn't a question of age or level, but of passion for CrossFit®, a discipline which continues to grow in France and Europe. There's no denying the obvious: the 2024 edition of the French Throwdown was the most beautiful of all. The most beautiful because the LDLC Arena is a superb, vertiginous venue, worthy of the event. The most beautiful because the FTD hosted the semi-finals of the CrossFit® Games, adding an extra dose of emotion and tension to an annual competition that over the years has established itself as a major player on the European CrossFit® scene. It was a sight to behold as the public deserted the partner village to flock to the Arena's grandstands and attend the various events. Many cheered and gave a standing ovation to Victor Hoffer, France's great hope in CrossFit®, who finished in sixth place, synonymous with qualification for the Games. But behind CrossFit® stars such as Victor, Jelle Host, Lazar Dukic and Laura Horvath, the public was equally enthusiastic about the performances of lesser-known, sometimes anonymous, athletes. That's the beauty of CrossFit®. The surpassing of self, self-sacrifice, the quest for performance, the suffering in the effort are all vectors of intense passion, no matter who is the athlete performing on the floor. But the French Throwdown is much more than a competition. It's a gathering of an entire ecosystem, made up of athletes, coaches, box owners, textile and accessory brands, equipment brands. All are at the FTD to meet, exchange, share experiences and celebrate CrossFit®.
